Kwe is the Ojibway word for woman / life-giver. This painting is an homage to our sisters: the missing and murdered indigenous women across North America.
The antlers represent the artist (Waawaashkeshi’ Kwe : Deer Woman) and the gentle and peaceful nature of indigenous women.
The red dresses represent our sisters who have gone missing (Red Dress Project created by Winnipeg Artist Jamie Black). The dresses are reminders of the 1,200 missing and murdered indigenous women in Canada.
